- Abstract
The quasar 3C345 is one of the best examples of superluminal
component motion on helical paths. To get better constraints
on the jet physics we use imaging with the highest possible resolution
available. This can be achieved in VLBI observations made at
shorter wavelengths (mm-VLBI) or with longer baselines (space-VLBI).
We applied both approaches to 3C345, and observed the source at
9 different epochs (5 epochs with 3-mm ground VLBI, and 4 epochs with
space VLBI at 6cm and 18cm). These measurements provide complementary
information to earlier results with lower resolutions. We discuss
the properties of the jet and moving components in the immediate
vicinity of the core (< 3mas). Our results will help to get a
better understanding of the physical processes in compact
extragalactic jets.
