Visitors Center - Pavilion (© MPIfR) |
Visitors are welcome to our Pavilion – the visitors center of the Radio Telescope Effelsberg. Here, you'll find an attractive program offering, for example,
- Slide and movie shows,
- Information materials, and
- Public talks.
Moreover, you will find different poster presentations and also general informations in printed form.
For technical reasons and last but not least for security regulations it is unfortunately not possible to visit the interior of the observatory and the telescope itself.
A very popular event is ourOpen Day. Here you'll have a lot of different opportunities to learn more about the telescope and our research. See Open Day.
Public Talks at the Visitors Center
From April to October, we offer an extensive program on public talks at the visitors center. The talks are given to groups of at least 15 up to a maximum of 80 people. Normally they will be held in German, but English talks are possible on request.
The schedule for the talks is: from Tuesday to Saturday at 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm and 4 pm. There are no talks on Sundays, Mondays, and on public holidays.
Registration for the talks is recommended and can be done via phone (working days before noon!) or via letter/fax to the following address:
Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie
- Radioobservatorium Effelsberg -
D-53902 Bad Münstereifel
Germany
Secretary: Mrs Franzen
Tel.: ++49 (0)2257-301-101
Fax: ++49 (0)2257-301-105
Smaller groups and individuals may attend talks for already registered groups. But keep in mind, that the regular talks will be normally held in German. In general, we recommend requests and confirmation via phone. For the talks we ask for a fee of 2 Euro for adults and 1 Euro for children and pupils. We regret that credit cards cannot be accepted.
Directions to the Radio Telescope
There is no public road directly to the Radio Telescope Effelsberg. However, there is good access to the public parking site (labeled "Radioteleskop Effelsberg"), see red dot between the two villages "Lethert" and "Effelsberg" on the map. From there, an easy walk of 10-15 minutes leads to the visitors center.
