There are many direct flights from European cities, especially from budget airlines (EasyJet, GermanWings, TUIfly, Air Berlin...) but also from Lufthansa and other national carriers. There is a BUS service (line 670) to the Bonn Central Railway Station (Bonn "Hauptbahnhof" or "Hbf") leaving from outside the terminal 2 building, stand B, roughly every 40 mins (this varies with time of day and day of the week).

There are train services from Düsseldorf Airport to Bonn Hbf; direct connections take just over 1 hour. There are also a few direct train connections from Frankfurt Airport to Bonn Hbf, taking about 1h 50m. There is a more frequent (and faster) ICE train service to Siegburg (38 mins) from which there is a direct connection by TRAM ("S-Bahn") line 66 to Bonn Hbf (25 mins). A single tram ticket costs EUR 4.10 (see below)

- Note that Ryanair does not fly to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) but to Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN). Although there are many cheap flights, this airport is a 2 hour drive from Bonn and very poorly connected by public transport.

Single tickets for bus and tram journeys within Bonn cost EUR 2.30. They can be purchased from a kiosk near the bus stands, or from a number of machines or in bus. When you start your journey the ticket needs to be stamped in the machine in the bus or tram. (This ticket allows you to transfer from one line to another with no extra charge, providing this is a single journey within Bonn of duration less than 2 hours.)

It is also possible to buy a strip of 4 tickets for the reduced charge of EUR 7.80. To use them the individual sections should be stamped by the machine in the bus or tram.

There is a stand for TAXIS outside the Hauptbahnhof; the approximate cost to the MPIfR or hotels is EUR 8-10.

- LOCAL TRAVEL INFORMATION

- From Cologne/Bonn Airport to Bonn Main Station (and Hotel Mozart or Schwan):
- Take the airport bus No. 670 from Cologne/Bonn airport (outside Terminal C, departs every 20-30min) to Bonn Main Station.

- From Bonn Main Station to the institute:
- Take the bus no. 623 towards LESSENICH or no. 621 to DUISDORF, departing from the central bus station about 20 meters from the arrival of the airport bus. Take the 11th stop IMMENBURG, which takes about 10 min.

- From Bonn Main Station to Hotel Zum Wilden Schwein:
- Take bus no. 632 from the central bus station to DUISDORF-OEDEKOVEN and leave at stop AM SCHICKSHOF, or take bus no. 621 to DUISDORF and leave at stop DUISDORF BAHNHOF (station). Travel times are about 20 minutes. From there it's only a few minutes walk to the hotel.

- Much faster is the regional train to EUSKIRCHEN which starts from Bonn main station platform 4 or 5 every 30min (17 and 47min after the hour, but only every 60min after 20:17) and leave after a few minutes at the next stop DUISDORF. The train is much faster than the bus.

- NOTE:
- Bus or train travel within Bonn are included in the ticket for the airport bus. If you travel to Germany by train, be sure to buy a ticket to Bonn-Duisdorf.

- From Hotel Zum Wilden Schwein to the institute:
- Walking time is about 20min. You can take the bus no. 621 from Duisdorf Bahnhof (station) and leave at stop IMMENBURG (12th stop, 12-15 min travel time).
