Status of the Azimut Gears
29-01-03 / jn

The new azimut gears work very well. One problem left is (in comparison with the old ones) a higher consumption of current, especially if the temperature is low (< ~10°C). In order not to damage some of the motor components (carbons), we limited the absolute speed in azimut (which can be ~31 deg/min). It is now much higher than the years before, but not the highest possible. We are working on this. The operator changes this maximum speed due to the conditions.
The maximum speed now available in azimut is ~28 degrees/min.

The limitations with strong winds we improved:

The operator must shut down observations, if the velocity of the wind is
greater than  16 m/s.
