All 16 new driving gears in azimut have been successfully
installed and the tests showed that they work very well. There are some
smaller problems left among which is (in comparison with the old ones)
a higher consumption of current . In order not to damage some of the
motor
components (carbons), we limited the absolute speed in azimut. It is
now
higher than the years before, but not the highest possible. We are
working
on this.
The maximum
speed in
azimut is now 25
degrees/min.
The limitations with strong winds remain
as before:
The
operator must shut
down observations, if the velocity of the wind is
greater
than 12 km/s.
