New Problems with the Azimuth Drive
29-03-00 / jn

Three azimuthal driving gears have been repaired and replaced in the telescope in the last months. Inspections during the repair phase showed serious problems in the general state of the gears. For that reason it has been decided:

1)  The operator must shut down observations, if the velocity of the wind is

greater than  12 km/s.

2) It is not any more possible to drive the telescope in azimuth with a speed higher than 20 degrees/min. That means, the maximum speed in azimuth is now half of the possible one.

Be aware of that limitation in azimuth, when planning your observing sessions for the next time.

The preparations for ordering new gears are in the final state. Hopefully we can begin with the installation of new gears at the end of the year.
